It was October 2003 when the SWAMP-IN (Saints with a Mission Purpose-Indian Nations) began. Ten months later, Zion became involved by sending its members to the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota. That was fifteen years ago and we are still going strong.
We are particularly excited that we have a full-time person serving on the reservation for the first time. Kirsten Stone has joined the staff of the Cheyenne River Youth Project in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, with the responsibility for the programs to young children.
Zion’s trip this summer will take place from July 21-28. Our focus will be assisting in the programs for children and helping maintain the facilities of the Youth Center.
So think about it. Spend a week of the summer being a servant to others and meet people with the same interest. Put yourself out there and serve people who come from a different culture and background. Build some new relationships and you will find that you have a lot in common. You will grow a lot in the process and have a great time.
Look for more information on how to register for the trip. If you want more information now, contact the director of our SWAMP-IN ministry, Debbie Wills (firstname.lastname@example.org/ 636 448-8768).
You are cordially invited to join us for a wonderful event! The Award-Winning Anderson Jazz Trio will be here in concert on Sunday, March 31 at 3:00 pm.
Virtuosos on clarinet and saxophone, identical twins Peter and Will Anderson are one of the most extraordinary musical acts performing straight-ahead jazz today. Born and raised in Washington D.C., the Andersons moved to New York City to attend The Juilliard School. Since then, the Andersons have performed in over 40 U.S. states, throughout Brazil, Japan, the U.K., and six times in NYC’s famed Highlights in Jazz series.
“A 90 minute musical marvel – a step back in time to the music of the Great American Songbook!” (Examiner)
“As players and composers, they sparkle… These young men can play superbly, and they have that important extra facility to make their music swing like mad.”
(New Jersey Jazz Society)
“Jazz History, humor, and live music that you’ll love. Peter and Will add their own twist and are true showmen. Somehow they manage to accomplish all of these feats with flair and well-placed humor.” (Theater Is Easy)
Tickets are available in the Welcome Center on Sundays, in the church office during the week, and at the door on the day of the concert.
