It was October 2003 when the SWAMP-IN (Saints with a Mission Purpose-Indian Nations) began. Ten months later, Zion became involved by sending its members to the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota. That was fifteen years ago and we are still going strong.
We are particularly excited that we have a full-time person serving on the reservation for the first time. Kirsten Stone has joined the staff of the Cheyenne River Youth Project in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, with the responsibility for the programs to young children.
Zion’s trip this summer will take place from July 21-28. Our focus will be assisting in the programs for children and helping maintain the facilities of the Youth Center.
So think about it. Spend a week of the summer being a servant to others and meet people with the same interest. Put yourself out there and serve people who come from a different culture and background. Build some new relationships and you will find that you have a lot in common. You will grow a lot in the process and have a great time.
